Jocelyn Sapphire Merdalos was originally born on June 25th to Frank and Samantha Merdalos. A family that may have been far from perfect but relished in the beliefs that they would get by with the best they could. Jocelyn would be the only child of the pair. Born in Chicago, Jocelyn grew up through her toddler years with no remorse having the ideal upbringing. Her parents may have had money issues but it was unbeknownst to Jocelyn. When she hit her preteen years she had discovered the joys and ill fittings of being a loner. She didn’t have many friends and kept to herself for the most part. Having several instances where other students tried to befriend her to make her the school joke rather than actually desiring friendship. Growing up that was the one thing she had longed for was at least one person wanting to be around her, for her. Once she hit the age of fifteen was the year that completely changed her life.

Jocelyn was out walking through the streets when she was approached by a random vagrant and was held at knife point. Here she may have been better off than he was but not by much, not having anything he could have taken. She let out a scream and that is when her mutant powers took form. Jocelyn had the ability to manipulate time, the mugger and the rest of the street froze instantly as if they were turned into wax statues. Jocelyn ran home in tears trying to find some way to explain it to her parents. Her father who dearly cared for her, his only daughter would be somewhat accepting of this. Her mother on the other side looks at this as a wild story her mind made up, and her mother constantly through her life that these stories of hers drives her crazy and that she would have to stop coming up with them.

Jocelyn had a hard time trying not to let her powers show around her home but when she did it was to freeze a glass about to hit the floor. And when she was more practiced at her powers would reverse it so it would go back on the table or counter it came from. This only drove a bigger wedge between her parents. Her father much like Jocelyn saw it as a good positive thing, at least the glass didn’t break. Her mother would always see red and hurry out of the room mumbling under her breath. Jocelyn tried not to let it bother her but any child who doesn’t get their own mother’s love and praise will suffer some effects from it. Things only got worse for her as a couple days after the attempted knife attack, her second mutation kicked in which was Telepathy.

Jocelyn took her second power much rougher than her first, she was now flooded with stray thoughts and emotions and at first it completely altered her world. She had to seclude herself to her room for several days. Her father seemed highly concerned with it until she had told him what was happening to her. He knew that he would have to try to explain to his wife why she needed to be left alone for now. Her mother threw a fit and what was worse about it was Jocelyn, still new to Telepathy had to hear not what she was screaming at her father but her inner thoughts about the situation.

Jocelyn’s mother Samantha couldn’t accept that her only child was a mutant and told her husband that either she needed to go somewhere or they would have to send Jocelyn away. Not that Frank agreed with his wife, he however sat Jocelyn down and said she did need to go somewhere that could help her learn and accept these new powers. That he didn’t want her to be in this type of environment. He went out on his own until he had made contact with Professor Xavier’s team and got it lined up for her to go to the School of Gifted Youngsters.

Once there she was there and grew to care for many mutants there. The only mutant she ever had an issue with was another telepath named Emma Frost. The X-Woman seems to be jealous of Jocelyn’s abilities and always seems to try and outdo her. But one mutant in particular, a boy named Leon Doucette, soon discovered that she would care a great deal about him. They had instantly formed a bond and were able to keep that bond for the three years at the School that turned into a deep love. Nothing seemed to be able to separate the couple, but a day after turning eighteen a day where Leon and her should have been moving in together she was kidnapped.

A man and a woman from what she could remember was able to separate her soul and consciousness out of her own body and replaced it with the woman who kidnapped her. Her features weren’t the only thing taken from her. Her mutant abilities were also taken. Her new body unlike her original were almost direct opposites. Jocelyn originally very short with straight black hair and pale was now wavy blonde hair with an average height and had tanned features. Jocelyn was held for three days being put through a painful process including restraints and electric shock before the X-Men were able to find her. She is now trying to piece together her new life with her new body and spend her time with the love of her life.
