Family:

Rafe was born as the middle child with two possible fathers. His mother Lena, was sort of dating if you called it that, two men at the same time. She never told him who they were so there wasn't any way for him to try and track down who helped create him. Lena was a single mother that worked many jobs to keep the roof over their head, food on the table, and clothes on their backs. Both of his brother's had different fathers yet none of the fathers stuck around. She worked many jobs and continually moved around a lot. When she had her first son Alexis she had been happy for a time, but both she and her husband were young. They started to argue and not communicate and finally divorced. It wasn't until years later and looking back she would have realized that her husband had depression.

Lena tried to appeal to her parents for help until she should bet back on her feet again, even moving to a new city. Her parents denied her. It was on some estate flats that she was sharing with a co-worker that she ended up dating the two men that could have been Raphael's father. Both men once they learned of her condition fled and denied that they were the father. Then she'd met Milo's father and got married to him. They were happy or so she had thought until he started to complain about Raphael and commenting about his strangeness. They separated and then when it was confirmed that her middle son had no conscious after he'd shoved Milo into a window and breaking it. The only thing that kept the younger boy from being cut and going through the window was the thick curtains. Raphael showed no remorse for the act nor even cared that his brother could have been seriously hurt. That brought to mind an even earlier occurrence from when he was only in the first grade and had thrown a good sized rock at a boy four years older than himself. At the time she had believed that the he'd been provoked.

Alexis whom never spent much time with his younger brothers unless he had to didn't usually spend much time at home. He had always gotten good grades in school and stayed late to help the teachers. He'd spent a good deal of time in the library while in school to the point that when he was in secondary school he was assigned as the library's assistant. As he got older he spent more and more time either studying or away from home doing who knew what. The day after he turned eighteen he disappeared without a word or note. No one had seen or heard from him since. Rafe had been ten years old and his younger brother Milo was eight.

Milo had always been wary of his older brother Raphael. Never wanting to stay in the same room as him without someone there as well who could protect him. The incident where his brother had nearly shoved him through a window was only one of many. What scared him most was the look in Rafe's eyes were one to look closely at them. They reminded him of shark's eyes from when he'd seen a documentary on them. The look was the exact same. Thankfully, he didn't have to spend much alone time with him. Milo made sure that he was at his friends houses as much as possible or at the park, somewhere with a lot of people. He had been extremely happy when he learned that his brother would be going away for nine months of the year. He was tired of moving and the way people looked at his family because of Raphael's actions.

Thinking a change of scenery would help, and because it was quite obvious that Rafe's current school was going to kick him out, Lena moved the family from Manchester to Merseyside. After another incident she almost decided to move the family to Russia. Why she decided upon moving all the way over there, no one knew. It might have been because she had distant relatives or hoped that the different country would help her son if it could. It was unknown if she had hoped that if the harshness of the climate would kill her son if it didn't change him for the better. At the very least it would be a place that Rafe wasn't infamous or would be looked twice at. Each time they had moved, Rafe just learned to be more careful, more attentive, and make sure that his deeds didn't get back to his mother or any authority figure. It was after Alexis vanished that Lena decided she couldn't do it anymore and that was when they moved to Russia. A year later Rafe got his letter to Durmstrang and a representative of the school arrived. The whole family felt relief that he would be gone most of the year. Yet even so, Milo petitioned his mother to send him back to the UK so that there would be an even greater distance between himself and his brother.

Lena didn't want to let go of her last child and got very upset when Milo had contacted his father and was required to let the boy go to his father. As Raphael was a minor and couldn't be left alone nor could he stay at the school over the summer, Lena was stuck until her son turned seventeen. A year shy of that she received a letter from Raphael which caused her to go into seizures. No one would believe her when she tried to say that it had been her middle son's fault. She was soon put into a home for the unwell. Milo stayed in his father until he'd heard about what happened to his mother. To try and get even further away, Milo ran away to Australia where he's lived since.

Personal:

Rafe has never considered himself strange. Everyone else were the strange ones. In his mind people didn't matter and were there for his amusement. Consequences held no meaning. It was unclear when his family became aware that he thought differently and didn't hold a 'conscience'. His step-father argued with his mother whom he convinced to commit Rafe to a home for troubled youth. Within a week Rafe had convinced the therapists that it was his mother that was troubled. The day he was released he found out that his step-father left his mother. He hadn't even the grace to take Milo with him. Before his mother had taken his brother to be assessed, Alexis had caught Rafe looking in the mirror making faces at it. When asked what he was doing, Rafe and responded, "Practicing." He had been practicing expressions he'd seen from the children in school and off the television.

Rafe is a vain and arrogant person who isn't afraid to admit it. He's an impeccable liar and performer for the most part having to learn to behave like other children his age by observing them and how they acted/reacted. While he has a sense of self-preservation, he still does impulsive things because, 'It was fun.' He's also rather different in how he remembers things with no sense of right or wrong. He likes to cause chaos and get under people's skins. While he loves playing mind games with people, he dislikes it when people try to pull the same stunt on him. Dislikes when people have to go and ruin his fun as well as loathes when told there is something wrong with him. He's ambidextrous and has always been independent. Insomnia combined with his flash temper has gotten the better of him. Alexis stayed away from home before not coming home and when that had happened he was sure that his mother had suspicions that Rafe had been involved in it. For Raphael, the anxiety his mother felt for the unknown fate of her eldest had him keep his mouth shut. Her paranoia along with Milo's fed the need in Raphael to cause destruction and chaos.

The moves always annoyed him, but had him deciding to look at it as a new challenge. When he was eleven it was confirmed that he was vastly different than his family. When he'd what he could do, he would practice to find the trigger to it and to control it. He'd never told anyone and would use these abilities and opportunities to fine tune it while he 'played' with his brothers and other children. It had been fun to keep this skill to himself. A vulpine smile had graced his face when the alumni that had come to speak with his mother and she'd learned to her horror that Raphael had been aware of his abilities. Seeing the charade was up, he'd shrugged carelessly. He hadn't been sure what to feel to learn that there were others that could do what he did. His pride was soothed when he'd gone to school and learned that he was still very much unique and wouldn't have it any other way.

Upon graduating from Durmstrang Rafe had decided to come back to his home country. Learning of the political climate going on, he thought it would be a fun place to be. First, he looked up his mother and decided to give her a little visit but it seemed after his last letter to her, she retreated so far into herself that she was basically comatose. That didn't stop him from informing her that he would be staying in the country for awhile and would come to give her updates. He had smiled at one of the nurses that had stated he was 'such a good devoted son' and gave her an address and number to contact him in case his mother's condition changed. That done, he went to Avalon to get himself a job to earn coin, keep an ear to rumors and information, as well as be entertained.
