Edward chewed on his lower lip, green eyes watching the numbers on the elevator as it rose higher to the upper floors. The building had been under construction since the battle that took place, but his dad had assured him as well as Happy and Pepper that the Zero-Point Energy Web Net thing he'd invented to keep nosy warlocks out of the building worked. He thought his dad also didn't want to have a certain god of mischief in his home in California which was why Edward got dragged back to New York. That had caused the two Stark males to argue like they hadn't since a year or so ago when Tony had kept that he was dying from him and Pepper. Edward wanted to stay in California and his soccer team. They'd had tryouts and practices had already started, games drawn up and he didn't want to go from an opening first string player to a second string bench warmer.

He might also have still been peeved at his father for nearly dying on national television because of course even with aliens bent on destroying New York, people had their cell phones out recording bits of it. While he had gotten used to his dad being Iron Man, seeing him heading toward a portal with a nuke, wasn't something one saw everyday. It stirred up old insecurities that he didn't want to admit to. By letting all is energy and time be focused by his soccer, he was essentially and unknowingly doing exactly as his father did, running away and ignoring the problem hoping he would diffuse his anger that way instead of actually bottling it up.

They both had agreed that Edward needed a new tutor though in his magical education. When he'd turned eleven they had turned down the invites to Ilvermorny and of course to Hogwarts. Because of his interest in soccer and the wizarding world's lack of interest in teaching the next generation to continue to grow and expand their minds with basic knowledge as well as freeing them from taking only 'magical' jobs, he had been privately tutored. Because of the battle of New York, there were a lot of chatter going around and so his tutors had been called in to help with the recovery process with both the city and the people. The event while localized in New York was something that had spread and was being talked about everywhere he was sure. At least in America. And possibly Germany from what he had heard about events there.

Shifting his balance from one converse clad foot to the other, he wondered what his new teacher was going to be like. He knew that his father had to pull a few strings and there had been some big discussion between the Avengers and some arguing. Naturally his dad got what he wanted though. Swallowing, when the elevator opened, he hesitated then took a breath before he stepped out and went to knock on the door of the room housing his new magic tutor.

Ripples of Epiphany {Loki} Empty
PostSubject: Re: Ripples of Epiphany {Loki}   Ripples of Epiphany {Loki} EmptySat Sep 21, 2019 5:57 pm

Loki relaxed against the pillows propping him up in the bed while reading a book on Shakespeare’s plays. It was considered an acceptable topic for him to read by the Avengers. Green eyes glanced up for a moment before he resumed his reading. He was constantly surveilled by the A.I. in the ceiling, though it wasn’t like he could do much with his current injuries.

A frown crossed his face before he smoothed out his expression.
Once returning to Asgard with Thor, he was immediately put on trial and deemed guilty of treason against the crown and attempted genocide of Jotunheim. Then he was thrown into a cell that was powered by his own magic, draining him to the brink and confining him to the eight foot by ten foot cell. Any attempts at escaping would hurt him because of his bond to his magic and how  his magic was him and he was his magic. Ergo, injuring it was injuring him. This is why it wasn’t sealed, for that would cause his death. Not as if the wounds he still had from His dear hospitality had fully healed before he was thrown in the cell and they were barely healing because almost all of his magic was fueling the cell. And then the visits started.

There were many who thought that him “just being in a cell” wasn’t enough of a punishment, so they decided to give him the punishment he deserved. This started around a month or so after he was imprisoned, long enough for them to realize that he wasn’t being watched. He didn’t resist because other’s would replace them time and again. Also, he wouldn’t be able to win against all of them. So, the routine began. Torture, slight healing, torture, slight healing, torture, complete healing, visit from Thor, then all over again. They always knew when Thor would visit because Thor had to ask permission from Odin. Then after months of this, the routine was abruptly halted... by Frigga.

Loki was in the middle of a torture session when all of Helheim broke loose. One second a blade was digging into his skin, the next it was gone and he was being healed by an all too familiar magic. Mother’s. Though while he would never call her that again, for he had no right to, she would always be his mother. And there she was, healing him. Him. Later, he had realized that she had almost killed the one’s who had been torturing him and the only reason she didn’t take the final blow was so she could deliver them to Odin as proof.

From there everything changed. Mother healed him enough to not be in danger of dying before getting Thor. Then she unweaved the magic on his cell and gave his magic freedom again, but it released outwards and didn’t come back. It would have to build up again over time. Then she sent him and Thor between worlds to Midgard while making sure that Heimdall couldn’t see where they ended up and didn’t tell Odin until they were gone. Which is how he found himself in the debt of the Avengers, mainly Anthony Stark the Man of Iron.

Thor took them to the tower from the invasion and asked Stark to allow him to stay and heal under his protection. It took some convincing on Thor’s part, but Stark said yes. And Loki heard later that it was in part because of Stark’s child, Edward. Which is what led to today.

Now, he was reading and waiting for Edward Stark to appear because apparently he received the gift of magic from his mother. Loki wouldn’t completely believe this until he saw the child for himself, though he did believe Thor when even he said the child wielded magic.

Upon hearing a knock on his door, Loki placed his book off to the side after sliding a bookmark in it.

“Enter.”

PostSubject: Re: Ripples of Epiphany {Loki}   Ripples of Epiphany {Loki} EmptySat Sep 21, 2019 6:55 pm

Upon hearing the permission to enter, the teenager opened the door and got a good look at the man that had (briefly) terrorized Germany and then decided that New York needed major landscaping and rearranging. While he'd had to study certain myths and such of different peoples for his studies, he'd never really would have believed they were actually really real. He supposed that he shouldn't have been as surprised as some to realize that a Norse god would be real even if a different from what was told in tales. As the offspring of a magic user and able to wield the same power you would think that he would be more open minded and believe in aliens and such. It had been an eye opener, he still was a bit skeptical and he fully lay the blame for such thinking at his father's feet. The man was very well versed on how to explain away things with science even his abilities.

The man before him bore no resemblance to the stories he read and for some reason that relieved some tension he hadn't known he'd had. While he could be wearing a glamour, he didn't believe that to be true; injuries aside. Yet, even so, he looked every inch the prince that Thor claimed. This Loki was not red haired like in most of the the tales nor did the rest of the description fit him except...it was his eyes. They showed the age if Edward looked closely into them. Their color just reinforced that he'd been right and felt a tiny bit of pride and smugness that he'd caught something his father had missed.

Realizing he had been staring and it was rather rude, something he tried not to be despite people's automatic assumptions that he would be. He'd also been quiet and realized that the man hadn't said anything either likely doing the same as himself. Either that or he'd had eons to practice patience and was waiting him out. That was fine.

Crossing the threshold to enter further into the other's domain, he paused once again unsure. What did one say at a time like this and not sound stupid? "Erm...You don't look like the drawings of you," he ended up saying immediately wincing inside.

Ripples of Epiphany {Loki} Empty
PostSubject: Re: Ripples of Epiphany {Loki}   Ripples of Epiphany {Loki} EmptySat Sep 21, 2019 7:20 pm

When the door opened, he was astonished at the power he could see in the child. It was more than he had expected, but still not enough as his own. The magic flowed through the other in a similar way to his own which meant that he wouldn’t have to change his way of dealing with magic to teach him, and oh would he teach the child. Magic was to be preserved after all.

After taking in the shocking sight of the child’s magic, he took in the child himself. He held himself relatively confidently, but it needed some work along with his posture and poise. His thoughts and emotions were all over his face. It was head tilting how similar they looked. If the child’s hair color were just a few shades darker and his bone structure tweaked, the child could pass as his own. And there was the mark of Sowilo that Thor had taken notice of. Green eyes narrowed slightly as he took note of the magic on it that he could tell circulated throughout the child. He would need to check that out, especially since there was a touch of darkness in it at the source in his scar.

Finally, the child spoke and he had to hold back a smirk. Boy was he going to be entertaining. “I would hope not, they were all obviously done by amateurs.” He had researched all that made mention of him and was in one part appalled, one part amused, and one part in dread. They knew far too much.

“Come in, child, and take a seat.” Loki gestured to the chair that was beside his bed, it was prepared for this and also visits from Thor and Banner, who was taking care of his health.

“As you have undoubtedly been told, I am Loki. What name are you addressed with?” For it was only polite and manners to do so upon first meeting.

Ripples of Epiphany {Loki} Empty
PostSubject: Re: Ripples of Epiphany {Loki}   Ripples of Epiphany {Loki} EmptySat Sep 21, 2019 7:57 pm

Edward's lips quirked up into a smile finding the humor of the statement of the artists. Eyes lighting up with amusement, the part of him that was a smartaleck teenager wanted to ask the other where he wanted him to take the seat to. However, he wasn't that eager to be rid of his life so soon. There were multiple reasons the main ones being he didn't want to start off on the wrong foot with his new teacher who could make the next months harder than they had to be. The other one was, he didn't know Thor's brother. The legends and tales about him were all contradictory only on agreeing that he was connected to Thor and had many misconducts. Like when he'd first began to live with his father and any adult he came into contact with, he'd feel them out first. So rather than open his mouth he sat in the indicated vacate chair.

Nodding, he replied with a bit of a frown. Well, that depended on who was asking and which side of the barrier he was on didn't it? He grew up as Ned when he'd lived in England but while over here most took to calling him Eddie like his father did. Unless they were a wizard and then he'd be addressed by that other name he'd learned about when he was five when he'd met Dumbledore. Shrugging his shoulders, he stated honestly, "I'm known by two names but I much prefer the one my mother gave me."

Something told him that honesty would be best in the long run when dealing with not only someone who was held as a deity, but was known to have a silver tongue would be able to detect a lie without trying. "I'm Edward and supposed to be your student if you wish to teach me."

Leaning forward, elbows on his knees, he propped his chin on his laced fingers, eyes alight with curiosity. "Have you ever taught someone before? The stories don't say." There were many different stories about his offspring, but never once had it said something about teaching them anything.

PostSubject: Re: Ripples of Epiphany {Loki}   Ripples of Epiphany {Loki} EmptySat Sep 21, 2019 8:55 pm

Loki took notice of how he held himself, how he moved, and how he sat. It seems that on top of magic, he would also need to teach him how to carry himself. No student of his will be anything less than poise.

So, the child had two names, hmm. It was something to question later. The other question would be who gave him his other name. It appeared that this child was wrapped in mystery and he would happily unwrap it.

Loki wanted to laugh as the child displayed curiosity and showed little fear while questioning him. “No, however, it does not mean I can not.” He was taught by the best and following that would lead to success.

“You will find that following much that the stories say are incorrect and best not to base any of our interactions upon.” Green eyes pierced him for a few seconds before changing to neutral again.

“Now, tell me what you know about magic.”

Ripples of Epiphany {Loki} Empty
PostSubject: Re: Ripples of Epiphany {Loki}   Ripples of Epiphany {Loki} EmptySat Sep 21, 2019 9:29 pm

Thinking about what was said he could believe that and was why he didn't know what to expect really when he'd knocked. Just having met Thor had him questioning the stories he'd known. Edward had nodded solemnly knowing all too well about taking what was written as gospel. He'd seen the stories printed about him a few years ago when Justin had told him about them when he'd first found out his childhood friend was Harry Potter. Not to mention all the things he'd seen in the papers about his dad or about how they had tried to pop out at him and milk the stories as long as they could. Thankfully, being a minor and not being as outstanding as his father, the press had gotten tired of Edward rather faster then they would have otherwise.

Blinking, he canted his head to the side wondering aloud, "Broad term? I know there are many different avenues of it. Potions, Charms, Transfiguration," he began to list them off as he knew of the different subjects he'd been tutored in. "There are different thoughts about the wand movements and incantations..."

Edward thought it was rather biased, stupid, and rather vain of wizards to think that Latin was the only language a spell could be said in. He'd argued with his instructors incessantly. As they never listed to him his only recourse was to either drop the subject and allow them to have the win, or he could master a spell in another language and prove he was right. That was another reason why his tutor hadn't been all that teared up about leaving him behind to help out in New York. He'd told Tony that Edward was incorrigible.

Ripples of Epiphany {Loki} Empty
PostSubject: Re: Ripples of Epiphany {Loki}   Ripples of Epiphany {Loki} EmptySat Sep 21, 2019 9:43 pm

Using the tablet that had been provided to him, and was under surveillance by the A.I., Loki looked up the terms Edward provided. He found himself lacking at each description, even though he knew that they were a little off base since he was aware that most didn’t know of magic. The biggest was when he figured out what a wand was. It was ludicrous. Using a tool like that was completely off base and restricting.

He was going to have to start from scratch.

“From now on, as soon as you step through the door you are to forget everything about magic that you know. And leave this...” He sneered, the first expression to finally make its way on his face since meeting Edward. “This wand elsewhere. You will not need it. If I see it, I will burn it. Today is your only exception.”

Loki paused to let Edward take this in as he placed the tablet to the side. “The first thing I will teach you is mediation. I will also have you starting on the basics of runes, so by the time we get to practical application we will not have to stop for you to learn it. And if you are not already on a training regimen, you will start one. I can give you a basic one or you could go to the Captain or Miss Romanov, who you might feel better learning such from.”

He paused again as he gauged Edward’s reaction to his instructions. “Any questions?”

Ripples of Epiphany {Loki} Empty
PostSubject: Re: Ripples of Epiphany {Loki}   Ripples of Epiphany {Loki} EmptySun Sep 22, 2019 1:15 am

As soon as he saw that his new teacher wasn't happy, Edward leaned back away from the sneer and nodded once again eyeing the other warily. Part of why he'd appreciated the fact he was able to be home schooled was to have as much of a normal life as he could. His hand automatically went to where his wand was strapped to his right forearm under his loose green pullover. Much like the panic watch that his father had gifted him with after his scare of being kidnapped as a child, he didn't go anywhere without it nor did his wand leave him after he'd gotten it. Reflexively he pulled that arm closer to his chest even as he furrowed his brow upon learning what he would be taught. He stayed silent getting an inkling from that first show of emotion from his teacher that he wouldn't take interruptions kindly. Nor was he one to push at the moment, so silent he kept until he was allowed to speak.

"Meditation? Like, find my happy place?" He wondered before something more important needed to be known.

"Does my soccer training count?" He asked. While he'd seen a lot of footage of the battle he had yet to interact with any of the Avengers aside from the brief encounter with Thor. He didn't really want to go to either of the people that Loki said might be able to start him on an exercise program (which he believed he was being told about.) Hopefully, it would count because he really didn't want to lose that part of his life that he enjoyed that was his own.

Ripples of Epiphany {Loki} Empty
PostSubject: Re: Ripples of Epiphany {Loki}   Ripples of Epiphany {Loki} EmptySun Sep 22, 2019 12:29 pm

Loki had noticed the recoil when he sneered and the wary eyes. It seemed that he would always need to be neutral and slowly introduce emotions that weren’t hostile at first so the child would slowly start to feel more comfortable. And then there was the defensive posture where he saw the flowing of magic, so he assumed it was his wand.

He let all of the questions flow, if there had been too many more he would have stopped the child and answered the first ones before letting him continue to ask more. So, as he answered about meditation, he looked up on the tablet what this “soccer” was.

“One aspect of meditation is to train yourself to center your emotions and mind, and, once you get used to it, then you could even do so while performing everyday tasks. One step further would be if you found yourself in a high tension situation it would help you keep calm and be able to react quicker and without high emotions that would cause mistakes.” Loki paused.

“However, our main objective is for you to use meditation to find your magic and to learn how it flows throughout you. The more familiar you are with your magic, the easier it will be to manipulate. It is like an extra arm or leg that you will also begin to subconsciously utilize.”

Considering that they were in America, he went with the definition of soccer according to his current geographical location. Even with the accent that the child was displaying.

“As for your soccer, it is acceptable for the moment. Once I see what your training regimen completely involves, I might add something extra so it is well rounded.” His first thought was anything involving the arms considering that it seemed this... sport hardly used them.

“Any other questions?”

Ripples of Epiphany {Loki} Empty
PostSubject: Re: Ripples of Epiphany {Loki}   Ripples of Epiphany {Loki} EmptySun Apr 26, 2020 11:16 pm

Listening to what qualified as meditation, the teen chewed his lip in thought. His mouth twitched but he kept his thoughts to himself since he didn't think that the god, demigod, alien, Asgardian would know what the Force or Star Wars was. But what he was speaking about kind of reminded him of that. Edward thought he might be able to do that. Might be hard to clear his mind though. He knew that he had a hard time doing that at the best of times. It seemed whenever he was trying to do that in order to sleep sometimes, stupid song lyrics, commercial jingles, or stray thoughts would invade his mind making sleep flee. "Hmmm, so sort of how I was trained not to panic if I was kidnapped." 'Again'.

Hooking his feet around the legs of the chair, he leaned his upper body closer a bit, eager to listen. As he did so, he tilted his head in thought, brows furrowed. Find his magic? That sounded more like Obi-Wan when he was teaching Luke. A bright grin lit his face when he was told he wouldn't have to abandon his favorite sport and past time. Nodding at the information that he might have more exercises added on didn't deter his happiness in the slightest.

'Any other questions? Hmmmm...' He eyed his teacher debating with himself. Loki did ask him if he had questions and didn't seem opposed to him. And he never said that he would answer them. Just gave permission for Edward to ask. This might be the only time he might be able to ask and not be rebuffed or received with hostility. Still, he was a bit hesitant. "Why?"

Not looking away from the man, he wanted to know as he was genuinely curious. "Why did you agree to teach me?"
